The Plumbing Distribution Company Ltd (PDC) is a successful, family-run B2B distribution business that has proudly served plumbing merchants since 2006.

We are built around gold-standard service, reliability, trust and continuous improvement. After 20 years of growth, we are entering an exciting new period of expansion.

We are now looking for an ambitious and commercially driven Sales Account Executive to join our team and play a key role in the next stage of PDC's development.

The Role:

This is a proactive B2B sales position responsible for managing and developing an established customer portfolio while identifying new business opportunities.

You will build strong relationships with plumbing and builders' merchants, increase account performance, reactivate dormant customers and generate new business across the UK.

Working closely with Operations, Purchasing, Logistics and Management, you will become a trusted point of contact for your customers while contributing directly to company sales and gross profit targets.

We are looking for someone who is confident speaking with customers, commercially minded and motivated by measurable results, while maintaining PDC's high standards of service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop an established portfolio of plumbing and builders' merchant customers.
  • Achieve agreed sales, revenue and account growth targets.
  • Handle inbound sales enquiries by telephone, email, WhatsApp and customer portal.
  • Proactively contact existing, dormant and prospective customers to generate new business.
  • Build relationships with key customer decisionmakers.
  • Identify upselling, cross-selling and product promotion opportunities.
  • Prepare quotations and follow up opportunities to maximise conversion.
  • Manage the sales process from enquiry through to order completion.
  • Identify and secure new merchant accounts across the UK.
  • Reactivate dormant and develop underperforming customer accounts.
  • Maintain regular customer contact through a structured monthly call programme.
  • Follow up all quotations within 48 hours.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and sales activity.
  • Monitor account performance, opportunities and pipeline development.
  • Work with internal departments to resolve customer, stock, delivery and service issues.

Performance Expectations

Success in this role will be driven by consistent customer engagement, proactive account management and commercial performance.

You will be expected to maintain structured customer contact and achieve agreed activity and sales targets. Typical activity levels will include 50–70 customer conversations per day alongside ownership of a monthly account contact programme.

Performance will be measured through sales revenue, gross profit growth, account development, customer retention, new account acquisition and agreed activity targets.

About You:

To be successful, you will need:

  • Previous experience in B2B sales, account management, business development, internal sales or telesales.
  • Experience managing and developing customer accounts.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence engaging customers and influencing purchasing decisions.
  • A professional telephone manner and excellent verbal communication.
  • Commercial awareness and a results-focused approach.
  • Strong organisational, planning and time-management skills.
  • Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office.
  • A proactive, resilient and persistent approach to sales.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work to targets.
  • A practical, customer-focused approach to problem solving.

Experience within plumbing, heating, construction products, merchanting or distribution would be advantageous.

We are looking for someone who takes ownership, consistently delivers on commitments and maintains high professional standards. Most importantly, you will share our commitment to outstanding customer service through product knowledge, responsiveness, reliability and a customer-first mindset.

What We Offer:

  • Established customer portfolio to manage and develop.
  • Clear and achievable sales targets.
  • Structured training and ongoing professional development.
  • In-house certifications and skills development opportunities.
  • Supportive environment where ideas, accountability and continuous improvement are valued.
  • Genuine long-term career progression opportunities.
  • Monday–Friday working hours with no weekend work.
  • Opportunity to join a growing family-run business.
